Do Some Music Videos Send The Wrong Message?

Do videos like Carrie Underwood's Before He Cheats and Miranda Lambert's Gunpowder and Lead send the wrong message to young girls?  If a male artist did the same type of video or song would there be an outcry and why?   Give other examples of male or female videos or songs that you think may send a wrong message.  Include a link in your post.  NO EXPLICIT VIDEOS.

  2. Yes, music videos like Carry Underwood's send the wrong message to young girls. It's kind of both ways because women (and everyone else) believe that the men deserve what they get, but it is against the law to do what they did in the videos.

If a male artist did the same thing, I feel like yes, there would be an oucry because men are seen as stronger than women and if they were to do something like that to a girl's car, people would feeel sympathy for the girl and not the guy regardless of the circumstances. ALthough, usually, when a man would encounter this type of situation, they normally would target the man that his girlfriend/wife cheated on him with.

  3. They say that girls can get away with anything. That if a guy does something wrong, its okay to take action on it because you wont get in trouble for it. But if a guy does it they get in trouble and they would say its domestic abuse and uncalled for. The world is sexist.

  4. Yes I do think that videos like Before He Cheats and Gunpowder and Lead send the wrong message to young girls. The videos show that it's okay to act poorly, when in reality it's not. If a male artist were to make a music video similar to those, the media would talk down upon that artist, but somehow it's okay for a female artist to make music videos like that.

  5. If a male artist did the same thing i feel as though it would be worse because it is considered very wrong ifa male does it where as if a women does it's not so bad. A song that is sort of the same thing is Miranda Lambert's Kerosene...

  6. Dirt Road Anthem:Jason Aldean the opening lyrics are "Yea im chilllin on a dirt road laid back Swervin like george jones." the next lines are "Smoke rolling out a window, ICE COLD BEER SITTING IN THE CONSOLE" this is sending a double standard message that you can drink and drive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgTTT25K5x4

  8. I believe that there many songs like the two mentioned above that are over the top with there message to younger girls.
If a guy ever made a song like that i feel like he would be criticized a lot by everyone because in society it is so unacceptable to do anything to a girl.

  9. I think the videos send the right message by showing girls that they need to stand up for themselves with a guy treats them badly, but it shows the girls going about it the wrong way. It indirectly sends girls the wrong message.

I think if guys did the same things some girls would be upset about it. However it's different when an abusive guy beats his wife for no reason, and when a girl trashes a guys car because he cheated on her.

  10. I think that the songs are sending bad messages because it makes it seems like that women can do things like this and just get away with it. If a male singer did this it would be all over the news and people would hate him, because they always make the man look like the bad guy.

A song that sends a bad message is Blunt Blowin' by lil wayne, its telling kids that it is cool to smoke weed.

  11. I think it would depend on the situation of the song, if a guy was singing about beating a girl is a differnt situation than a girl singing about vandalizing someone's proerty.

I think in a way they do. for me personally i like these songs and i think there a good way for girls to get emotions out. i use music to vent and it makes me feel better. i don't want to actually do what the song is implying but in a way i can see how people can take it the wrong way. And i think that if a male singer did the same type of thing they'd get criticized more for it because guys are generally stereotyped as being the abusive violent ones where girls are more perceived as innocent.

  13. I do not think that those videos promote a bad message, because they are about a guy doing things to a girl, and that is more violent than a girl doing something to a guy. Revenge, is natural. Besides they are not actually hurting a guy, they are about revenge.
But if a male artist does that, they are usually more violent. If a guy does something to a girl thats worse because guys are more powerful than a girl are. I think it mostly all depends on the video.

  14. I think that with our society today, kids and teens listen to music without actually paying attention to the lyrics. When I listen to songs like this, it doesn't make me want to do it, or think its okay, I just like the tune to the song.

Yes, the wrong message is sent to young girls. These artists are showing that, when you get hurt, it's alright to destroy something or someone. They are promoting violence to young girls to handle being hurt by men. The double standard comes in when a man makes such a song. If a woman does it there is no problem with it but if a man were to the man would come under a lot of scrutany. This is proabably due to the power that is associated with men. If a man made such a song it would be seen as an abuse of his power to promote such volitile thing. Society's views of woman and man are very different. Women are innocent and mature while men are reckless and immature. These views transfer in to standards for both men and women. Men need a "tighter leash" while women have more free reign. Some other songs that promote the wrong message are Kim by Eminem and Kerosene by Miranda Lambert http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rB7ONnfIjaI&ob=av2e

  16. Yes, I would say that the videos send the wrong message to young girls. These videos can make them believe that they can do something destructive and get away with it. I think there would be more of an outcry if a male artist did the same thing because men wouldn't usually react as Carrie Underwood did in her video. The men would be thought of as inconsiderate and they would be viewed as the enemy.

  17. If a male artist sang a song like that it would be a HUGE deal.

I think it is wrong but I know that there's nothing that I can about it.

  21. Yes these types of songs are sending the wrong message to girls, especially younger ones. This is really not how life really goes, anyway, cause people could get into trouble for doing that. But men on the other hand if he did that to a girl, then he would get in trouble and it would be considered to be sexual assault, and be placed with other charges, etc.

  23. Yes it sends the wrong message. It shows it is okay to hurt people and their possesions if they do something wrong to you, but in reality it just gets you in trouble. music videos like this should not be taken to heart to the public.

I think that if a guy were to make a music video with a negative theme they would be looked down on. It would be a lot worse for a guy then it is for a girl.

  28. The song by Carrie Underwood does send a wrong message to girls.
If a guy sang the same song about doing the same thing to girls, there would be some conflict.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Alright so Carrie's song doesn't send a bad message to young girls. It has the whole female empowerment thing going on and it's obviously dramatized because it's a music video from hollywood. I think the song is mainly about girls standing up for themselves but is blown up for dramatic affect and if the girls are taking this as a how to guide well...they're just stupid.

I think there would be people upset if a guy was beating up some girls' stuff because girls are seen as the more defensless of the two genders and males are expected to take the high road and not react to stuff as emotionally as women.

The song Creep by TLC literally the best song. Tis about a girl who cheats on her cheating boyfriend because he isn't paying enough attention.

  31. I dont think its giving the wrong message but its showing how serious this stuff really is. If a male did the same type of song or wideo there would be some problems because the way our society is.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree that videos and song like Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats" is a bad example for girls, because it can give them the idea that its okay to destroy their ex's car because he cheated. If a male did the same thing there would be an outcry because it would be seen as abusive and psycho.
    Examples:
    Mickey Avalon's "Jane Fonda"
    Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff"

    Leta Hughes

  33. I think the videos send the right images to girls for standing up for themselves just in the wrong way. I think if a male artist created and posted a song like this, I think people
could criticize them and look down upon them.
I think the the video "hell on heels" shows the wrong image for women though because its all about "gold digging" and how women just use men for there money.

  34. 1.)I dont think it sends the wrong message. I see it as a way to let young girls express there hate in singing a song. Like if a guy cheats on me I blare songs like Gunpowder and Lead and work out, or hit a punching bag. Thats the way i see the songs being used.

2.)Yes, if a male was to post a song thats similar to carrie underwoods song, then the media would be all over it, and ripping him to peices.

    SONG: 1.)Kick a man's:trace adkins

  35. The Carrie Underwood song is encouraging girls to key guys cars so this sends a wrong message to female viewers. If a guy did this, i'd think there'd be just about the same amount of issues with it. It depends on how impacting the video can be.

  37. Yes, the songs send the wrong message to young girls. They see this and think it would be alright to destroy the property of a cheating boyfriend. If they do this, it will be a crime. There would be an outcry if male artists did this. People would view the artist as mean and someone who needs to be looked at.

  38. I agree that both of those songs give girls the wrong message because it's telling girls that it's okay to do something wrong because a guy cheated on them. And if a guy did a song like them they would get so much crap for that. But it's wrong because no girl should be able to do that and a guy not be able to.

  39. I think that the song won't sent wrong messages to girls. Young girls aren't all dumm, they know what is appropriate or not.... and it is just a music video its not such big deal to teenagers. Guys and girls are equal so its won't be worse if guys do it!!

  40. Yes Videos like these send the wrong meassage to young girls. If you did that in real life you would have commited a felony. If guys did this or wrote this type of song they would be blamed for abuse and the like. http://www.lyrics.com/you-give-love-a-bad-name-lyrics-bon-jovi.html

  41. I think that the video is sending the wrong message. Young girls should have to follow the law regardless of who they think broke their hearts. If a man made the same video, he would be shunned. It's not okay for guys to treat girls that way, but girls can do it to guys according to society

  44. I think there's a big difference between singing about something and then actually being caught doing it. Although this doesn't make it right, there is no proof that these people completed these actions. It does send the wrong message to people but it's just a song. It probably would've been worse if a guy did it because guys are suppose to respect women.

The song i chose was Miranda Lambert: Kerosene.

  45. Yes, Carrie Underwoods video sends the wrong message becasue it is showing that you can destroy someone elses property and get away with it. I think there would be an outcry because he would be seen as a jerk who thinks he is better than women even though thats probably not the case.

  46. Yes i do beleive that music nowadays do send the wrong message to our youth. In carry underwoods before he cheats she destroyed his property because she thinks he is cheating on her. And in the rolling stones classic before they make me run all they talk about is drugs and partying and just having a good time.
